Gina and Mathew tied the knot at the top of Vail Mountain at the Holy Cross Event Deck this past August. The forecast called for rain all day and for once the weatherman wasn’t wrong. Minutes before their ceremony was set to begin, these two had to make the tough choice of either moving their ceremony inside to the Eagle’s Nest cafeteria (a less than ideal alternative), or weathering the storm and keeping with their original plan. Despite the downpour, they decided to go ahead with their outdoor ceremony & BOY was everyone glad they did. The rain and storm clouds made for such a gorgeous, moody backdrop and didn’t take away from the sweeping mountain views one bit. Whenever there is rain in the forecast on a wedding day, I always share the story of Gina and Matt’s rainy Vail Mountain wedding day!
Like many couples these days, Gina and Mathew met on a dating app while Mathew was in Chicago for work. They had their first date at the LondonHouse Chicago, where they sipped cocktails and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset over the Chicago river. That night, they both knew they had stumbled into something special and decided to keep in contact despite Mathew living in New Jersey. Soon after, Gina took a work assignment in Washington state. Despite the added distance, their love never wavered. They took advantage of any opportunity to travel and see each other, and made the most of the time they did get to spend in the same zip code.
After years of long distance, lots of planning, and a last minute change to their wedding venue, Gina and Mathew finally said their vows atop Vail Mountain at the Holy Cross Event Deck. Gina is from Illinois and Mathew is from New Jersey, so this was a destination wedding for almost everyone in attendance. Despite the forecast, their guests rallied around them with umbrellas in tow and happily witnessed these two love birds say ‘I do’!
The Holy Cross Event Deck is located at the top of Vail Mountain. The only way to access the Holy Cross Event Deck is by taking the gondola up/down the mountain. The ride up makes for an amazing introduction of the views to come! Once your guests step off the gondola and make their way to the Holy Cross Event Deck, they’re greeted with majestic 360-views of the Vail Valley and Gore Mountain Range. This ceremony venue is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, or those simply looking for a jaw-dropping backdrop for their wedding ceremony.
If you’re interested in having your own Vail Mountain Wedding Deck ceremony, you’ll need to reach out to a wedding expert at Vail.com to coordinate this. They typically only host weddings between mid-June and mid-September. If you’re planning a ceremony at this location, make sure you consider having umbrellas on-hand just in case a spring/summer storm decides to roll through like it did for Gina and Mathew!
